Back to South African Trip Reports

Nov 17th

This was a bonus day that wasn't planned. It was decided to spend a few hours around Hluhluwe Game Park. Thankfully the weather wasn't so bad and here are a few photos from there, something that would have been impossible in the previous days conditions.

Red-shouldered Widow & Hamerkop

This poor Barn Swallow was absolutely shattered and just sat there on the Tarmac not moving for anything. We had to be very careful as we avoided it whilst carrying on with our journey.

Pintailed Wydah & Dusky Indigobird

Bleating Bush Warbler & Blue Waxbill

Natal Francolin & Yellow-fronted Canary

It's a shame I couldn't get a proper front or side on view of this bird but at least with these view it shows off the stunning colour of it.

Violet Backed Starling

This is one bird that I was the only one to see and also the only one of the entire trip.

Natal Red-capped Robin-chat

African Fish Eagle & Green Spotted Wood Dove

Little Bee-eater

Red-billed Oxpecker & Three Banded Plover

Yellow Weaver & African Pied Wagtail

Indian Myna Bird & Cape Glossy Starling

That was the last of the photos from Hluhluwe. From here we went to Bonamanzi for a three night stay. The final track leading to the gate produced two lifers, Thick-billed Weaver & Wooley-necked Stork.

After setting camp it was time to join the group for the boat trip. Although not a good photo it does show the restricted view of the Crowned Eagles nest we came across with the female and chick in it.

Following are the few photos we took on the boat trip.

European Bee-eater & Green-backed Heron.

Whitebreasted Cormorant & Southern Brown-throated Weaver

Pied Kingfisher

Malachite Kingfisher

Bonamanzi on Nov 18th.

Puffback & Collared Sunbird

Purple-crested Lourie

Pale Flycatcher & Lesser Masked Weaver

African Jacana

Yellow Weaver

Reed Cormorant & Lesser-striped Swallow

Brown Hooded Kingfisher

That was the first two days at Bonamanzi. The third will be on the next page.
